The coolest spot in the house

Okay, I’ll admit it, I have a penchant for restrooms that complete the story of an area with the elements they include. Not just the signs on the doorway, although there are some fabulous details to be had there, but also the surrounding décor, the light fixtures, tile, mirrors, everything within the restroom. These are details I would love to share with all of you, not only because they fascinate me, but because they capture the imagination of the storyteller and audience alike. In the story of Camp Minnie-Mickey, we are away at Summer Camp with all of our near and dear animated friends. The camp is in the Adirondack Mountains, which is in upstate New York. This location is the key to the story because the flavor of the vacation region of the Adirondacks is steeped in ornamentation, rustic beauty, and arts & crafts. The natural elements, while ingrained in the Summer Camp tale, are also crucial to the larger story of Animal Kingdom by displaying functional nature that has grown into the desired forms rather than being shaped by human hand.I am not usually one to take a camera with me into the restroom, but as I was in the Camp Minnie-Mickey restroom just after Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened, and there were no other guests inside the facility, I felt it would be okay to snap a few shots to showcase this terrific addition to the story. From the natural materials woven into the branches that complete the frame of the mirror to the meandering limbs that encapsulate the lights, the Imagineers telling the story here left nothing, or everything, to the imagination.

By the way, does anyone else see possible Hidden Mickeys hiding amongst the black tiles in the pattern?

So that is what you did after I left to catch my plane. Hidden Mickey's must be the theme this evening. I just posted the HM over at Mission: Space.

Oh, I love a man who is unafraid to get out a CAMERA in a place that has URINAL!!! :) Too funny!

Thanks for coming by my site! :) I respectfully welcome any input you may have. :)

Taking a camera into a bathroom...interesting...at least this one was! And I totally see the Hidden Mickeys - are they the same in the Ladies, I wonder?

The Ladies Restroom? Hmm, I may be brave Princess, but I'm not that brave!

I've definitely taken my share of photos in the restroom - I love the different tile patterns that the designers used throughout property. I've always been a little shy about posting them on my blog, but I'm so glad to see someone had the courage to do so! Great shots! :-)

I have some photos of this same restroom that show another detail in this restrrom that I found interesting, they have an old-style radiator in here.

about ¾ of the way down this page:

I love that radiator as well Brian, I think it just completes that feel of a camp bathroom, since at camp you have to get up early and run out in the cold to go to the bathroom or shower. Thanks for sharing!
