Si Si Fruit Fruit

When BoardWalk Bakery reopened a couple of months back, we grabbed one of the sweet stop’s classic dishes that had been refurbished along with the rest of the eatery. While we went with the Cheesecake Brownie, the missus went with something a bit fruitier. Aileen Sheehan-Wilson joins us today to tell us what she thinks of BoardWalk Bakery’s No-Sugar Added Mango Vanilla Panna Cotta. Let’s see what she had to say after digging in!

Today we are making a stop at the Boardwalk Bakery in order to sample the No-Sugar Added Mango Vanilla Panna Cotta. Panna Cotta is one of my favorite desserts and I must say, this particular version was so amazing, I was genuinely sad when I was finished with it.

Panna Cotta is a traditional Italian dessert that means cooked cream. It is normally made by simmering milk, cream and sugar together and then mixing it with gelatin and letting it cool. When complete, panna cotta is a cross between pudding and flan and has a rich creamy texture that I am sure you will fall in love with. The No-Sugar Added Mango Vanilla Panna Cotta obviously has no real sugar added to the dessert but I am confident some type of sugar substitute was used. Based on the flavor and lack of bitterness to the dessert, I would assume the bakers used Splenda or possibly a fruit based sweetener.

This panna cotta was three different layers. The first was a mango panna cotta layer that was bursting with the flavors of mango and cream. The second was the vanilla panna cotta layer, which was filled with vanilla flavor and had bits of vanilla bean peppered throughout. The last layer was mango puree that was much more tart than the rest of the dessert and definitely helped to cut through the creamy sweetness of the preceding layers. All of this was topped with fresh raspberries and a curl of dark chocolate.

So, what is the final verdict?  I would absolutely get this again. In fact, I only ordered this dessert because I couldn’t figure out what I wanted when we went in and I have to say, I am so glad I did! It had great flavor and absolutely met my need for a dessert that was both refreshing and satisfying.
