The Cup That Will Transport You - Part IV

We’re only one more trio of coffees away from finishing up our tasting tour of Joffrey’s Walt Disney World take home offerings. Before we get to that last set though, we still have today’s reviews to get through. We’re bringing your cups a little something from the Grand Floridian, Yacht and Beach Club, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this morning. Without further ado let’s turn it back over to my in-residence coffee devotee, Aileen Sheehan-Wilson!

Citricos (Dark)There’s a certain African bean with a fresh, citrus aroma. We just knew we had to include it in our Citricos blend. It’s the cornerstone of the coffee we began dreaming about the second we saw the citrus soaked angel food cake on the menu. Fresh berries soaked and infused with honey and Cointreau®? Fire up the roaster. A smooth Indonesian and dark roasted Central American complete this troika of 100% Specialty Grade Arabica Beans that we lovingly prepare for this lively Mediterranean-style restaurant.

What Aileen Tastes:
Again, we have a dark roast I truly enjoyed. It is a combination of Indonesian and Central American beans that have an almost citrusy flavor.  To me, this roast is a perfect addition to breakfast, combining a bright yet bold essence that seemed less heavy than some of the other dark roasts. This coffee would be one I would want to have in the spring and summer months, especially if it was turned into iced coffee causing those bright flavors to shine through. This is a coffee I would consider ordering again.

Jiko: The Cooking Place (Full)There are rings surrounding the tiled columns in this open and airy restaurant. They pay homage to the distinctive neck rings worn by the women of the Padaung tribe. It's this passion for detail that pushes us to go the extra mile for our Jiko coffee- all the way to Africa to be precise. The 100% Specialty Grade Arabica Beans we blend mimic the tantalizing flavors and fragrant spices of Jiko's New African cuisine. Clean and well balanced, with complex fruit and floral notes, it has a lingering aftertaste you'll find extremely pleasing. Especially when united with Jiko's dessert of Tanzanian chocolate and Kenya coffee mousse called, 'One Last Cup.'

What Aileen Tastes:
This was my least favorite of the coffees but that does not mean I didn’t enjoy it! The full bodied roast was definitely clean and well balanced. Also, I did detect the floral notes listed in the description. However, this is a coffee meant for dessert or as a one cup end to the meal, not for an accompaniment to dinner or even for your morning coffee. So, while I enjoyed it, it fell a little flat in the “can Aileen drink this before work” category.

Yachtsman Steakhouse (Dark)High-quality, grain-fed beef hand butchered to perfection in a dry-aging room then prepared on an oak-fired grill. This is no place for weak coffee. The dark-roasted Central American bean in this bold blend is stout enough to follow a parade of prime New York Strips and 32-ounce Dry-Aged Porterhouse for two. And don’t fall asleep on the bright, fruity African bean and velvety smooth Indonesian in this trio of 100% Specialty Grade Arabica Beans. When it comes to the Yachtsman’s signature Crème Brulee, they’re all business.

What Aileen Tastes:
This was the first bag I opened in the group, and I have to say, I finished the bag before I moved on to the other coffees.  I truly enjoyed this Central American dark roast and loved the strong yet fruity flavors that came through with each sip. I believe that this roast can easily be enjoyed during the meal, with one of the Yachsman’s spectacular steaks or with a creamy dessert. I think this coffee helps to cut through all of the richness offered at this restaurant, and makes it a perfect coffee to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
